Abstract: Direct measurement of jets in GeV Heavy Ion Collisions by STAR
Jet quenching measurements using leading particles and their correlations suffer from known biases, which can be
removed using full jet reconstruction. In this talk, we present the systematic measurements of direct jet
reconstruction in heavy ion collisions. Using the large coverage of the STAR TPC and EM Calorimeter,
we apply several modern jet
reconstruction algorithms and background subtraction techniques that are appropriate to heavy ion collisions. We explore their
parameter spaces to determine systematic uncertainties. The first inclusive spectrum of high jets in
GeV heavy ion collisions will be
presented. We illustrate how the underlying background affects the reconstructed energy for various algorithms. In order
to asses the jet reconstruction biases we compare the jet rates in heavy ion with the
results of binary scaled p+p collisions.
